Abstract

This study was motivated by the difficulty experienced by some ninth-grade students at SMP Islam Bina Insani in determining further-study options after completing junior secondary education. The study aimed to examine the effect of group guidance services on students' understanding of further-study options. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of seven students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 25-item questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before the intervention, scores ranged from 57 to 63 with a mean of 60.00 and were categorized as moderate. After four group guidance sessions, scores increased to 81–87 with a mean of 84.00 and were categorized as high. The mean increased by 24.00 points. The Wilcoxon test produced Z = -2.366 and an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.018 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between students' understanding before and after the service. The findings indicate that group guidance can be used as an alternative counseling service to help students understand educational choices, recognize personal conditions, plan further study, and consider the consequences of educational choices.
